“Me and Studio Ghibli“

When I was a high school student, I discovered Studio Ghibli, and it inspired me to major in Japanese. English Translation: To me, Studio Ghibli is a very important film company. The first Ghibli movie I watched was Ponyo, but my favorite Ghibli movie is Spirited Away. In Ponyo, there were many flowing colors, and the music was very pretty. But, I don’t think Ponyo’s storyline is very interesting. I liked it, but I was not very moved. I like Spirited Away more than Ponyo. When I was a high school student, I watched Spirited Away for the first time. The colors were beautiful, and the animation felt life-like, so it was unforgettable. Even though I have watched Spirited Away many times over, I love it when I watch it now, too. I think that Chihiro and I have similar experiences. For example, in the movie, Chihiro was moving, and she seemed lonely. When I was a kid, I also moved frequently with my family. Chihiro was sad, and she missed her friends. Also, Chihiro’s parents did not care or think about her feelings very often. At the beginning of the movie, Chihiro fought with her parents. I also have experience with fighting with my parents. I was able to relate to and understand Chihiro’s feelings, so for that reason I was very moved. When I watched Spirited Away, I was already studying Japanese, but after watching the movie, I really gained more of an interest in Japanese. I thought, “I want to speak fluent Japanese.” Japanese is a very beautiful language, and I am interested in culture as well. At the college I am currently at, I am majoring in Japanese; since I study Japanese every day, I think that I am becoming better little by little. Now, I have a concrete dream. I want to travel, become acquainted with new people, and I want to see the world. Thanks to Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, I was able to find a dream. I’m glad that I started studying Japanese. Also, I am glad that I was able to make friends at my college. Someday, I want to go to Japan. In Spring of 2023, I plan on studying abroad. If I go to Japan, I want to go to the Mitaka Ghibli Museum.
